CUSTOMER BULLETIN (eight)  Winter 2007

From David Coory, author of the nutrition book "Stay Healthy by Supplying What's Lacking in Your Diet" and Managing Director of Zealand Publishing House.

Dear Valued Customer

We have some new products for you in our Winter 2007 catalogue, and are developing some more.

One currently under development is a healthy, appetite suppressant. We are calling it Safe-Slim.

Nearly all of our products have started with my own health needs. I appear to be a typical New Zealander in this regard, but more aware of our unique NZ health needs through years of on-going health research for my "Stay Healthy ..." nutrition book.

I also enjoy experimenting with improving health.

I developed our Triple Pack products CAA, Coral C and CoQ10-Omega3 with my own health needs in mind, and take them every day. They are as good as we can make them with current knowledge and we constantly try to improve them.

We have had some moisture speckling in recent batches and I do apologise for that. The problem could be avoided entirely by using minerals that are non-water soluble (or non-colloidal), but I want to keep the mineral absorbability at maximum.

Our manufacturers are upgrading the air-conditioning of their factory to achieve an ultra-low 35% humidity to try and avoid this problem in future. However, always keep the lid on tight and if moisture is high in your home, store CAA in the fridge.

The gelatine we now use for the capsules is from a high quality American source and is tasteless. The bad taste of some of last year’s capsules has been a world-wide problem.

7-Day Iron

In line with my desire for continual improvement, CAA now contains more iron, 5 mg. Up from 1 mg previously.

But even this amount is not enough for young girls, athletes and pregnant women. The new RDI for pregnant women is 27 mg, for young women 15 mg, for mature men and women 8 mg. So to meet these highly variable needs I have developed 7-Day Iron, in capsule form. Each capsule contains a net 35 mg of the high quality, chelated iron we use in CAA, plus 60 mg of Vitamin C.

7-Day Iron is designed to be normally taken only once or twice a week, so as to avoid any constipation problem. Although during development trials, I took a capsule every day for a week and found no problem at all in this area.

Iron plays a key role in energy, mental acuity, and in avoiding osteoporosis and broken bones. Recent research has shown that bones can break easily at any age without enough iron and calcium in the diet. A healthy bone, like the green branch of a tree, should bend rather than break, except in severe circumstances.

Boron + Selenium

Another new product in this catalogue is Boron+Selenium. The minerals of Boron and Selenium play key roles in the avoidance of arthritis, cancer and heart disease in NZ.

If you are taking the Triple Pack products and still have some remaining arthritic pain, try the extra 10 mg of Boron in this product. Some of our customers swear by 10 mg of Boron a day.

With regard to Selenium, overseas Naturopaths now recommend 400 mcg a day (maximum 1200 mcg). Boron+Selenium has 150 mcg, the same as CAA. Selenium has powerful antioxidant and cancer-protecting properties. It also has numerous other roles, such as retaining youthfulness, clear skin, healthy eyes, prostate health, sound sleep, and a sense of wellbeing.

"Laugh With Health" book

This top-selling, Australian health book "Laugh With Health" on the front page of the catalogue is just crammed full of useful nutrition information. It’s a large, colourful book and written in a lively, interesting way. It is very relevant to NZ foods and an ideal, in-depth companion book to my own simpler "Stay Healthy ..." book.

It contains highly interesting newly discovered health facts of over a 100 common, natural foods.

New RDI’s

NZ and Australia have in recent months totally revised the RDI’s (Recommended Daily Intake) for food nutrients.

These new RDI’s are found in the latest March 2007 printing of my "Stay Healthy ..." book. I’m still working on the major 9th edition upgrade of this book, hopefully available late next year. Meanwhile, with every reprint I update important details.

Tanita inner scan scales

I was totally sceptical about the popular Tanita Body Fat Monitor and Innerscan scales which are imported into New Zealand by one of our Dunedin customers. When he approached me to stock them I didn’t believe they could possibly do what they claimed. That is, to measure the fat percentage, water percentage and in the more expensive model, bone density and biological age of our body. I told him that we have a jealous reputation for only selling products that work.

However he kept insisting emphatically, by email, over several weeks that they do work and provided me much evidence. So I finally bought one of the body fat models to test. (He wouldn’t send me a free sample.) I also obtained a competing brand to check for consistency.

Frankly I was amazed. A friend of my wife, who has an ample figure, registered 55% body fat. A slender 16 year old boy showed 8% fat. My own reading was 17%. And so it went on. All the readings were what one would expect from eye appraisal.

The other brand read a slightly lower overall, but was consistent with the first machine. I was finally persuaded that they do work.

These high tech machines work by sending a series of mild electrical signals up into the body, through the bare sole of one foot and back down through the other. A built-in computer then calculates the fat percentage, water percentage, muscle mass and even bone density and biological age, according to the variations detected as the signals pass through differing resistances of water, muscle, fat and bone. It only measures the trunk and legs of the body, however that appears to be sufficient.

These are also very precise weighing scales. They measure down to 0.1 of a kg (or lb). Highly useful to detect daily weight gain or loss on first arising each morning. Overall a good product and Tanita lead the world in development and reliability.

Ultimate Cleanse period options

We are now recommending the 25 day option for The Ultimate Cleanse  program, due to the number of capsules to be taken, and better results overall.

The herbal prostate health product Pro-Care

Pro-Care (formerly Prost-Health) is now available in a lower cost, two month pack instead of the six month pack as previously. Some men get very good results with this product, others find it has limited effect. (Not advertised in the catalogue.)

Overseas price list on website (now faster)

The overseas posted price of all our products can be found on this website under the menu item Prices. All the world’s major currencies are listed.

Our website is also now much faster if you are on dial-up.

David Coory.
